THE BEAUTY OF THE DONKEY

Not available in your country
After spending over half a century in Switzerland, Asllan Gjinovci returns to his native village of Makermal in Kosovo, accompanied by his daughter, the director Dea Gjinovci. In conversations with the villagers, carried out within an improvised, stage-like reconstruction of the house where Asllan grew up, they search for traces of the past and a lost identity. During this process, the unexplained disappearance of Asllan's mother during the Kosovo War gradually moves into the foreground. THE BEAUTY OF THE DONKEY combines documentary observation with staged moments, in a tale exploring reconciliation and the impossibility of forgetting, even across multiple generations.
